Candy Corn Polish origins are somewhat of a mystery. The Dutch are given credit for standardizing the breed. Polish are known for the huge crest that adorns their heads. They are also known as “top knot” or “Top Hat” chickens. While their temperament is mostly tame, due to their crests obscuring their vision, they can be frightened and startled easily which has given them the reputation of being a bit flighty. They lay a decent sized white egg and are decent layers in the non-winter months. They rarely go broody and so if you are thinking of hatching chicks, you will most likely need to consider an alternate means of incubating the eggs.
Polish have a “V” shaped comb, can be bearded or non bearded, have white earlobes, slate gray legs and can be frizzled. They come in many color varieties in both solids and laced. We are currently working with the Candy Corn (crele) coloration. They are ideal for urban dwellers as well as rural occupants who would love a calm bird that not only has a remarkable appearance but can lay a descent amount of medium white eggs. Males will grow to approximately 6 pounds with females reaching 4.5 lbs.
